Drydocks World and ABB sign partnership agreement at SMM

Drydocks World, the most productive shipyard in the Middle East will have a dedicated service point for ABB turbochargers. ABB Turbocharging will now have a dedicated service point for ABB turbochargers in the Drydocks World facility in Dubai, a leading international player in ship repair, ship conversion, ship building and offshore fabrication. To mark this cooperation, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed at the SMM in Hamburg, one of Europe’s leading maritime exhibitions, where Drydocks World will have its largest-ever representation at the show this year. The signing ceremony was held at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, in the presence of H.E Mohammed Ahmed Al Mahmoud, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirate, Germany and senior officials of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the officials of the two companies and delegates. The service agreement will be signed in October 2012, the Dubai-based shipyard's press release said.

"On this occasion, I express my gratitude to His Excellency Mohammed Ahmed Al Mahmoud, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates of his support and gracious presence and I am thankful to the representatives of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. ABB has been a loyal business partner and we are delighted to take this co-operation  to a new level. The co-operation will help us offer faster and better quality services and will be beneficial to all our clients. This is an initiative to support our long term business strategy and helps it to be more customer-focused, and high advanced technical services,” said Khamis Juma Buamim, Chairman of Drydocks World and Maritime World.

The agreement will promote sharing of mutual benefits to enhance business of both companies, ensure quick turbocharger service to customers in the yard and offer one-stop ABB turbocharger solutions at Drydocks World- Dubai. As per the agreement, ABB Turbocharging Dubai will provide international factory warranties to all service jobs done at Drydocks World, including dedicated machines and engineers at a workstation within the shipyard facility. Over 100 ABB Service Stations worldwide will also provide assistance to Drydocks World if required, giving it the advantage of accessibility to a quick response and global services.

H.E. Hisham Abdulla Al Shirawi, 2nd Vice Chairman, Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry stated that the signing of the agreement on the sidelines of the Dubai Chamber Trade Mission to SMM 2012, came in line with the mission’s aim of establishing new business partnerships, exchanging of experiences and innovations in the maritime sector.

“We welcome this agreement as it directly supports Dubai’s maritime sector while enhancing the position of Dubai as a transshipment hub in the region. It goes out to showcase the competitive advantages and maritime facilities offered by the emirate as this also caters to Dubai Chamber’s strategic objective of creating a favourable business environment while promoting Dubai as an international business hub,” said Al Shirawi.

“Given the strategic importance of the Drydocks World and Dubai to our mutual customers, this initiative provides onsite accessibility to key equipment required for the overhaul of Turbochargers thus allowing for quick turnaround times and onsite technical support round the clock,” said John Fyfe, Area Manager Middle East & North East Africa.
