CMPS launches new MaK REParts program

Caterpillar Marine Power Systems announces a new Repair and Exchange Parts (REParts) program that offers customers extensive repair and exchange options and provides same-as-new parts performance and reliability at a fraction of the cost—often at savings of 20% to 40%, the company press release said.

    High availability
When marine engines require service, ship owners need options that return their vessels to operation quickly. MaK REParts provide a broad range of sustainable, in-stock parts solutions that can be ordered from MaK distributors worldwide to better meet the specific needs of the marine market. MaK REParts are easy to exchange and install, providing cost-effective repair options, enabling customers to minimize downtime and increase vessel availability.

    Same-as-new-performance—and warranty
MaK REParts are original used parts rebuilt to the same quality standards as their original OEM parts. By employing state-of-the-art salvage techniques and quality control standards, MaK parts are returned to their original specifications, assuring same-as-new-performance and reliability. The technology for the remanufacturing standards are the same that are used on the Cat® Reman parts utilized in the Cat brand marine engines.
As a measure of their quality, these MaK REParts carry the same warranty as new MaK parts, underscoring Caterpillar Marine Power Systems’s commitment to its customers.

    MaK Service Center
The newly constructed MaK Service Center serves as an additional repair resource for MaK distributors to augment their customer support capabilities worldwide and provide specific components where needed. There are benefits in using a common service center for repair resources as it enables a critical mass of expertise and skills. Caterpillar Motoren GmbH & Co. KG is proud to be able to offer this expertise to their global MaK distributors in support of the common customer needs.  In many cases, the dealers are managing multiple maintenance projects at once, and this new Service Center will provide some assistance in managing these peaks.

In addition, Caterpillar Motoren GmbH & Co. KG maintains significant marine engine expertise and continues to invest in MaK components and engine overhaul capabilities such as Caterpillar’s unique piston rechroming process for MaK REParts to meet the growing service demands of the global marketplace. The new Service Center will act as a center of excellence for REParts processes such as the rechroming process to ensure a global consistency that exceeds customer expectations. In fact, the demand for a Service Center is so high, that Caterpillar Motoren GmbH & Co.KG has planned an additional 1,890 square meters of capacity scheduled for completion in early 2013.

Sustainable solutions are possible with MaK REParts
MaK REParts will help operators achieve sustainability goals, as genuine MaK parts may often be rebuilt for a second life, adding value to customers’ investments, maximizing engine productivity, lowering overall owning and operating costs and reducing the environmental impact. MaK REParts make a positive contribution to sustainability by keeping non-renewable resources in circulation for multiple lifetimes. By returning used components to same-as-new-condition, Caterpillar Marine Power Systems reduces waste and minimizes the need for raw materials to produce new parts.
MaK REParts comply with all applicable EIAPP and IMO requirements and meet all current and foreseeable emissions regulations.
