K-Green Trust wins Solar Pioneer Award

K-Green Trust (KGT) was awarded a Solar Pioneer Award for its photovoltaic (PV) installation at Keppel Seghers Ulu Pandan NEWater Plant (UPNP) as part of KGT's asset enhancement programme, the Company press release said.

The Solar Pioneer Awards are organised by the Energy Innovation Programme Office (EIPO), led by the Singapore Economic Development Board and the Energy Market Authority.

UPNP is one of three assets in the portfolio of KGT, Singapore's first "green" infrastructure business trust. When it is completed in February 2013, the PV installation will be the largest in Singapore.

Covering about 10,000 square metres of roof space at UPNP, the PV installation is designed to generate up to 1 MWp (megawatt peak) or approximately 1,000 MWh to 1,200 MWh each year. The energy generated is equivalent to the needs of approximately 250 four-room HDB households1.

Mr Thomas Pang, CEO of Keppel Infrastructure Fund Management, Trustee-Manager of KGT, said, "The advances in photovoltaic panels have allowed us a cost-effective solution to harness renewable energy to reduce the consumption of conventional power at the wastewater recycling plant. We are happy to be able to lower the carbon footprint of the plant and contribute to the national effort to reduce dependency on traditional sources of energy."

This is also the third time that a member of Keppel Group has been recognised at the Solar Pioneer Awards for their efforts to contribute towards a sustainable future.

Last year, another member of Keppel Group, Keppel DHCS, received the same award for the largest photovoltaic cell installation on a building in Singapore at its district cooling plant expansion at Changi Business Park with a planned system size of about 550 kilowatt-peak. In 2010, Keppel Land was recognised for its implementation of the largest PV installation in Singapore's Central Business District at its commercial development, Ocean Financial Centre.

    About K-Green Trust (KGT)

KGT provides investors with an opportunity to invest in "green" infrastructure assets in Singapore and globally with a focus on Asia, Europe and the Middle East. KGT's Sponsor, Keppel Integrated Engineering, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Keppel Corporation.

KGT currently owns Senoko Waste-to-Energy Plant, Keppel Seghers Tuas Waste-to-Energy Plant and Keppel Seghers Ulu Pandan NEWater Plant.

About Keppel Seghers Ulu Pandan NEWater

Keppel Seghers Ulu Pandan NEWater Plant is the fourth NEWater plant in Singapore. In early 2005, PUB awarded the contract to Keppel Integrated Engineering, to design, build, own and operate the plant under a Public-Private-Partnership initiative, so as to meet the demand from the industrial and commercial sectors in the western and central regions of Singapore. At the time it turned operational in 2007, it was the largest NEWater Plant in Singapore. It has the capacity to produce 148,000m3 of NEWater per day.

Keppel Seghers Ulu Pandan NEWater Plant features modular design, space saving measures and energy saving features which lower operating costs.
