Centaur and Seiko shipping vessels have been arrested in the Sea of Okhotsk for poaching
Two poaching vessels were arrested in the Sea of Okhotsk on Saturday. According to PrimaMedia, cutter Nickolaj Starshinov of Kamchatka cutter unit stopped two fishing boats in the Northern part of the Sea of Okhotsk for control. Both vessels – shipping scow Centaur and Seiko, chartered by Japanese firm, belong to Singapore fishing company and operate under the flags of Belize and Cambodia; their crews consist of the citizens of the Russian Federation. Both vessels had neither position-control systems nor documents to permit fishing.
At Centaur shipping scow there were over 23.5 tons of live king crab, while Seiko crabber had about 9 tons of arthropods. After counting, 17.5 thou crabs were let out.
According to the decision of lieutenant general Balerij Putov, head of the Northeast Boundary Board of the Coast Guard under FSB of Russia, the poachers were arrested and escorted to the port of Magadan for investigation.
