US Intermarine begin to deploy its heavy-lift cargoships on a new pan-Asian service
The New Orleans shipowner says it plans two sailings per month on a service stretching from Japan, Korea and China to the Arabian Gulf and “all points in between”.
Richard Seeg, Intermarine’s Asia area manager, will manage the Far East, India and Gulf service from Shanghai. Intermarine’s Century class heavy-lift general cargoships are 8,000-dwt, 11,000-cbm vessels with double cranes that can be combined for 400-tonne lifts, adjustable tweendecks and single box holds with no transverse bulkheads.
In announcing the new service, Seeg said: “These vessels are perfectly suited to meet the needs of new oil and gas facilities in the Middle East, power generation plants in Southeast Asia, and infrastructure development projects across the continent.”
