    Throughput of Russian seaports up 7.2% to 136.6 mln tonnes in QI'13

    In January-March, throughput of Russian seaports grew by 7.2%, year-on-year, to 136.6 mln tonnes, Association of Sea Commercial Ports informs.

    Transshipment of dry cargo totaled 55.7 mln tonnes (+2.0%) including 22.1 mln tonnes of coal (+18.4%), 10.4 mln tonnes of containerized cargo (+3.8%), 2.8 mln tonnes of mineral fertilizers (+27.6%), 1.2 mln tonnes of packaged goods (+32.9%). Transshipment of ferrous metal fell to 6.3 mln tonnes (-10.3%), forest cargo – to 1.1 mln tonnes (-21.8%).

    Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo made 80.9 mln tonnes (+11.2%) including 50.4 mln tonnes of crude oil (+10.7%) and 26.6 mln tonnes of oil products (+0.2%).

    Transshipment of export cargo amounted to 109.1 mln tones (+7.6%, year-on-year), import – 11.4 mln tonnes (+24.7%), transit – 9.3 mln tonnes (-16.4%), coastal trade cargo – 6.8 mln tonnes (+18.6%).

    Operators of sea terminals of the Arctic Basin handled 10.6 mln tonnes of cargo (+31.7%, year-on-year) including 5.6 mln tonnes of dry cargo (+6.0%) and 5.0 mln tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (up 1.8 times). Throughput of Murmansk port boosted to 6.8 mln tonnes (+32.3%), Vitino – to 1.2 mln tonnes (+18.4%), Varandey – to 1.2 mln tonnes (up 2.2 times) and Archangelsk – to 1.0 mln tonnes (+27.9%).

    The ports of the Baltic Basin handled 50.1 mln tonnes of cargo (+ 7.2%) including 18.2 mln tonnes of dry cargo (+5.0%), 31.9 mln tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (+8.5%). Throughput of Ust-Luga port increased to 13.3 mln tonnes (up 1.8 times) mainly due to the launch of new liquid bulk terminals, Vysotsk – to 3.7 mln tonnes (+15.0%), Kaliningrad – to 3.7 mln tonnes (+14.9%). At the same time, throughput of port Primorsk fell to 16.8 mln tonnes (-14.9%), Big Port St. Petersburg – to 12.4 mln tonnes (-5.6%).

    The volume of cargo handled in the Azov-Black Sea Basin made 40.3 mln tones (+4.1%, year-on-year) including 12.6 mln tonnes of dry cargo (-5.2% because of the fall of grain transshipment), and 27.7 mln tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (+8.9%). Stevedoring companies of the following ports increased their transshipment volumes: Rostov - 1.8 mln tonnes (up 1.5 times), Taman - 1.7 mln tonnes (up 4.8 times with the launch of the oil terminal). However, throughput of the port of Novorossiysk fell to 28.6 mln tonnes (-2.0%), Tuapse – to 3.8 mln tonnes (-20.3%).

    The ports of the Caspian Basin handled 2.0 mln tonnes of cargo (-17.3%) including 0.7 mln tonnes of dry cargo (-34.8%) and 1.2 mln tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (-1.8%). Throughput of Makhachkala port fell by 12.7%, Astrakhan – by 20.7% and Olya – by 1.8 times.

    Seaports of the Far East ports increased their throughput to 33.6 mln tonnes (+6.8%) including 18.6 mln tonnes of dry cargo (+5.5%) and 15.0 mln tonnes of liquid bulk cargo (+8.3%). The following ports increased their throughput: Vostochny port – by 21.8% to 12.0 mln tones, Vanino – by 15.9% to 5.3 mln tones, Nakhodka – by 3.7% to 4.2 mln tones, Vladivostok – by 5.3% to 3.2 mln tonnes. Throughput of Prigorodnoye fell by 2.5% to 4.4 mln tonnes, De-Castri – by 18.4% to 1.5 mln tonnes, Posiet – by 12.0% до 1.2 mln tonnes.

    Association of Sea Commercial Ports (ASOP) set up in 1987 unites over 50 organizations and enterprises of Russia’s maritime transport. ASOP comprises commercial seaports, forwarding and agency companies, scientific research institutes and marine educational institutions. Operational results of Russian port sector are based on statistics reports and cover all stevedoring companies operating in the Russian Federation.
