Port of Long Beach container trade down 28.7 percent in June
Containerized cargo movement at the Port of Long Beach declined 28.7 percent in June compared to the same month in 2008, according to The Chronicle. The port says imported cargo was down 28.4 percent from the prior year and exports declined 28.8 percent. There was also a 29.2 percent decline in empty containers, which are mostly sent overseas to be refilled with cargo.
Overall container trade for the calendar year to date was down 27.4 percent compared to the 2008 period.
