China's Beibu Gulf port throughput up 14.4 pc in first half
Southwest China's Beibu Gulf Ports handled 27.5 million tonnes of cargo in the first half of the year, up 14.4 per cent year on year, reports Xinhua.
Qinzhou port registered the highest growth among Beibu Gulf's three ports with a volume of 4.28 million tonnes in the first half, up 43.5 per cent over the same period last year. Fangcheng port handled 20.4 million tonnes with an 11.8 per cent rise and Beihai port recorded 0.7 per cent hike to 2.8 million tonnes.
Affected by the international economic downturn and China's export policy, the region's trade imbalance deteriorated further with import cargo volume reaching 20.9 million tonnes, growing 26.5 per cent and making up 76.1 per cent of the total throughput.
