GDF Suez takes delivery of 2 new LNG carrier ships
Two new-built LNG carriers, BW GDF Suez Brussels and BW GDF Suez Paris, were delivered to GDF Suez in the framework of a long-term charter contract.
Both vessels were built in Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Shipyard at Goeje Island, South Korea, and are owned and operated by BW Gas.
The vessels are expected to be used to take cargoes from the Yemen LNG project, where GDF Suez has a contract to buy 2.55 million metric tons of LNG per annum.
From the first quarter of 2010, and for a 3-year period, BW GDF Suez Brussels will be used as Floating Storage Unit (FSU) for the Group's fast-track LNG receiving terminal project in Mejillones, Chile.
These two vessels bring the Group's fleet up to 15 LNG carriers.
Within the next ten months, GDF Suez will receive three additional new-built ships under long-term charters, of which two are Shuttle and Regasification Vessels, to reinforce GDF Suez shipping capacity and pursue the expansion of its LNG business.
Fitted with Gaztransport & Technigaz' reinforced NO96 cargo containment system and offering 162,400 cubic metres of cargo-carrying capacity at 100% volume, BW GDF Suez Brussels and BW GDF Suez Paris are the largest LNG carriers of GDF Suez' fleet.
