Singapore July bunker sales grow 3.8%
Singapore's bunkering sector has recorded marine fuel sales of more than 20 million metric tonnes (mt) for the first seven months this year, after July figures saw an increase from the previous month.
July bunker sales were up 3.8% from June to 3.0726 million mt, bolstered by sales of 380 centistoke (cst) bunker grade, according to preliminary estimates from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).
Year-on-year, July sales rose 1.4% compared to 3.0309 million mt in the same month last year.
Sales for the first seven months of 2009 totalled 20.9647 million mt, surpassing the annual sales of 20.809 million mt in 2003, MPA data showed.
Sales from January to July also inched up from the 20.3888 million mt sold in the same period of 2008, the data showed.

''There were a lot of orders and demand was healthy last month,'' an independent physical supplier told Bunkerworld.
The tight market towards the end of July, however, might have put a lid on the sales growth as suppliers were restricted in their offers, another supplier noted.
Apart from key grade 380 centistoke (cst) which posted 2.4218 million mt of sales in July, up 6.8% from June levels, sales for other grades of marine products fell.
Sales of 180 cst bunker fuel fell by 4.9% to 191,200 mt in July compared to the previous month. High-viscosity 500 cst material also posted a drop of 9.4% to 290,500 mt.
Marine gasoil (MGO) saw sales dip marginally to 132,500 mt in July, the port authority's data showed.
Bunker sales increased with the number of vessels that stopped by Singapore port for 'bunkers-only-calls'. July's figure was 2,765, up from 2,622 in June.
Singapore sold a record 34.94 million mt of bunkers in 2008, making the port the biggest bunkering market in the world.
With monthly bunker sales averaging close to 3 million mt this year, the republic could see further growth in its bunkering sector in 2009 despite a setback in its overall economy.
