Shell to create Germany’s largest refining complex
Shell has awarded Technip a contract to integrate two of its refineries near Cologne in Germany to create that country’s largest refining complex. As part of the work, Shell planned to modify process units and construct new facilities to produce more low sulphur gas oil. The refinery at Godorf has a processing capacity of 10m tonnes/year, Wesseling 7m tonnes/year. In addition to fuels, it produces aromatics, olefins and methanol.
The refineries mentioned are supplied with crude oil via Rotterdam , together with five situated within the port area (Shell, ExxonMobil, Koch, Kuwait Petroleum, BP), two in Antwerp and one in Flushing. Together they use between 93 and 103 million tons of crude oil per year.
