China signs overseas project contracts worth US$64.6 bln
China signed foreign project contracts worth US$64.6 billion and completed a turnover of US$32.2 billion in the first half of this year, up 38% and 52% year on year, respectively.
The increase rate maintained a fast year-on-year growth of more than 30% over the past few years. China's foreign contracted project sector contributed 40% of the total export turnover and thus eased the country's export drop by 2 percentage points.
Of all the newly contracted projects during the first six months of this year, 226 foreign contracted projects are worth more than US$50 million each. The total value of these projects was US$51.8 billion, accounting for 80% of the total.
The structure of foreign contracted projects has been optimized. Contracts in technology-intensive industries with high profit ratio such as petroleum, chemical and energy accounted for over 50% of the total.
The foreign contracted projects contributed RMB 2,2 trillion, or 7% of China's GDP in 2008.
