Zaliv shipyard (Ukraine) puts off construction of ten capesize vessels
Shipbuilding plant “Zaliv” (Kerch, Ukraine) has put off implementation of a project on construction of ten 175,000-dwt capesize vessels due to a difficult economic situation, the chairman of the company’s supervisory board Nikolai Kuzmenko says according to Transport. Nikolai Kuzmenko says implementation of the above project requires raising of large financial resources which is not reasonable today.
Currently Zaliv is building 11 vessels during to be delivered by the end of 2010. The entire backlog of orders cost some EUR 60 mln.Shipbuilding plant “Zaliv” is one of the largest shipbuilding and ship repair plants of Ukraine. It specializes in construction of tankers and container carriers as well as in repair of different vessels. The shipyard annually builds 3-4 hulls for dry cargo and container carriers with deadweight of up to 8,000 tonnes and repairs up to 35 different vessels. The yard also builds chemical carriers.
