Maersk Line announces new service and rate restorations

Maersk Line introduces a new direct service, ME2, from India and the Middle East to the West Mediterranean and back, through a slot exchange agreement with United Arab Shipping Co. on its Mina Service. The launch of the ME2 service is an enhancement to company existing product portfolio and offers the following benefits to customers:
Direct coverage of key West Mediterranean ports to and from Middle East and the Indian subcontinent
        Superior transit times
        High schedule reliability
The ME2 service rotation covers the following ports: Valencia (Spain), Genoa (Italy), Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), Jebel Ali (UAE), Port Qasim (Pakistan), Nhava Sheva (India), Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), Genoa (Italy), Barcelona (Spain), and Valencia (Spain).
Start dates for the service as follows:
Eastbound: MV Fowairet, sailing from Genoa, 21 September 2009
Westbound: MV Hanjin Rio de Janeiro, sailing from Nhava Sheva 19 September 2009
This slot exchange agreement is a part of Maersk Lines ongoing commitment to constantly improve our services and meet our customers’ requirements.
General rate increases in the Intra Americas trades
Maersk Line would like to announce rate increases on our Intra Americas Services.
The trading conditions for the carriers operating in these markets are still subject to unacceptable rate levels and the situation is unsustainable in the longer term.
These increases are necessary to continue providing a first class service on this trade, in an environment where the operating costs remain on the rise and current rates are below sustainable levels.
