Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg carries out construction of sea container terminal as around-the-clock work
Within the implementation process of full-scale development programme the group of companies “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” changed the process of construction of the 1st stage of sea container terminal with the annual capacity up to 350 000 TEU to twenty-four-hour operation.
For the period from the beginning of the project the expenses of the company for construction and designing of the terminal and for the purchase of the technological equipment equaled to 580 mln. Rubles.
New piling foundation of landside crane rail for STS cranes was mounted on the territory of berth Nr. 101 of the Fourth Stevedoring Company. Storm sewer system, fire and amenity water supply systems are being constructed. Cable routing is being concreted.
On the sorting area of the terminal the components of the metal structures of reefer racking system (the foundations for this system are being erected at the moment) are being produced.
In early August the construction of water treatment facilities and land reclamation have been started.
Commissioning, operational and load testing of the technological equipment for the 1st stage of Sea Container Terminal (2 STS and 6 RTG cranes), purchased in 2008 is planned for October of 2009.
Reference: The group of companies JSC “Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg” includes CJSC “First Stevedoring Company”, CJSC “Second Stevedoring Company”, CJSC “Third Stevedoring company”, CJSC “Fourth Stevedoring Company”, “Universal Handling Facility” in Ust-Luga and a number of service companies.
The development programme of port infrastructure envisages the handling operations with more profitable cargoes and increase of the handling capacities of the company up to 20 mln. tons per year by means of construction of specialized handling facilities: container terminal, refrigerated terminal, car terminal and facility for ro-ro cargoes. The programme also includes the use of modern handling techniques and removal of environmentally unfriendly cargoes from Saint-Petersburg.
In 2008 the company started the design works of the first stage of container terminal with the annual capacity of 350 thousand TEUs on the territory of Fourth Stevedoring Company where outdated handling facilities for coal, alumina silica, scrap metal and timber were situated. This part of the terminal will handle export and import containers as well as reefer containers and dangerous cargoes.
In 2008 the group of companies negotiated the contract with ZAO “Konecranes” (subdivision of Finnish crane corporation Konecranes Heavy Lifting) for supply of 4 ship-to-shore cranes (STS) and 10 rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTG).
