Kuehne + Nagel opens new facility in Russia
Kuehne + Nagel has opened a new facility in Sochi in Russia, which will be directly involved in providing logistics and transportation services to official contractors of the Olympic Winter Games 2014.
The city of Sochi has embarked on the construction of venues and local sports facilities along with the modernisation and expansion of hotels, residential areas and businesses in the area, and a total of 63 publicly funded projects are planned for completion in 2012 - requiring some 100 million tons of infrastructure materials to be transported.
Located in the district of Adler, close to Sochi International airport and a new sea-river port currently under construction, Kuehne + Nagel's new facility is positioned at the hub of all construction and logistics activity.
According to Perry Neumann, managing director of Kuehne + Nagel Russia, the company has appointed a dedicated Olympics executive, Irina Erokhina, to co-ordinate worldwide shipments for the project and also to manage the time-critical site construction logistics.
Another co-ordination team for Sochi 2014 has also been established at Kuehne + Nagel's hub in Vienna, to manage and control the direct shipments by road from Europe to Russia.
