Agreement signed between Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and Estonian Maritime Administration
On 9 June 2014, Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) and the Estonian Maritime Administration signed a new agreement on the delegation of authority to carry out statutory surveys on board ships flying the flag of Estonia, RS says.
The agreement extends the scope of services provided by RS to Estonian vessels. In particular, RS has now been authorized to carry out surveys on behalf of the Estonian Maritime Administration for compliance with the requirements of the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments 2004, and the Maritime Labour Convention 2006.
The signing of the agreement will strengthen cooperation in the implementation of high standards of safety at sea, ensure compliance with all applicable international requirements on ships, and increase the efficiency of maritime transport.
Today, more than 20 ships under the flag of Estonia are classed with RS.
Maritime Аdministrations conclude agreements with RS on the basis of the provisions of IMO Resolutions А.739(18) ‘Guidelines for the Authorization of Organizations Acting on Behalf of the Administration’ and А.789(19) ‘Specifications on the Survey and Certification Functions of Recognized Organizations Acting on Behalf of the Administration’. Today, RS is cooperating with the maritime administrations of 71 flag states.
