TPS supplies Model2 harbour crane to Norway

Terex Port Solutions (TPS) recently supplied Norwegian company, Saga Fjordbase AS, with a diesel-electric Terex® Gottwald Model 2 harbour crane, G HMK 2304 variant. Saga Fjordbase, a subsidiary of the Norwegian INC Group, started operating the crane in February 2014 at its Florø terminal. The Port of Florø lies on the Norwegian coast around 150 km north of Bergen. Saga Fjordbase AS is a service base for the oil industry, the Company said in a press release.

”We are very pleased to welcome Saga Fjordbase as a new customer. This terminal operator opted for our Model 2 mobile harbour crane after weighing the alternatives,” reported Giuseppe Di Lisa, Vice President Sales & Service at Terex Port Solutions. ”Of particular importance were the functionality and versatility of the crane, which is ideally suited to the needs of smaller ports like Florø.” Terje Grude, Senior Contract Coordinator at Saga Fjordbase, added: ”With our new mobile harbour crane, we will be handling not only containers but, in the main, general cargo, including pipeline sections for the oil industry and other cargoes. We anticipate an increase in our productivity because the lifting capacity, lifting capacity curves, radius and working speeds are exactly in line with the tasks we need to be able to perform at our terminal; the versatility of the crane will also enable us to use it for many different applications.” As well as having a diesel-electric drive, the crane is configured to connect to a power supply from the harbour mains, as is common practice in Norway, to enable customers to take advantage of environmentally compatible and economical energy.

Terex Port Solutions launched the Model 2 in the summer of 2012 as the first member of its small crane family. This crane model is the successor of the proven HMK 170 E/EG mobile harbour crane. Like all cranes from Terex Port Solutions, the Model 2 harbour crane is available as a classic mobile harbour crane, portal harbour crane, floating crane on a barge, as a stationary pedestal-mounted crane or as the new rubber-tyred portal harbour crane. This last crane type is particularly well suited to narrow quays, where drive-under capability is required.

Model 2 cranes are designed specifically for the prevailing conditions in smaller ports. With a maximum lifting capacity of 80 t, a radius of up to 40 m and hoisting speeds of up to 120 m/min, these cranes are an excellent choice alongside vessels ranging up to Feeder class. The Model 2 crane is available as a two-rope and four-rope variant with two hoists and a 32 t grab curve suitable for bulk handling of professional standard.

Like all the newly introduced harbour crane models supplied by TPS, this one also uses three-phase technology for the hoist and slewing gear units, which makes it easier to use particularly environmentally compatible, efficient hybrid drives. To increase the efficiency of the crane even more, and completely avoid exhaust gas emissions from these machines in the port, TPS can optionally equip its cranes to connect to an external power supply.
