EU provides Muuga port (Estonia) with a grant for EUR 12.85 mln
The project on development of Muuga port (Estonia) has been provided with a grant from the European Union for construction of approaches to the port. The grant (EUR 12.58 mln) has been provided by the EU Integration Fund, the Baltic Course writes.
The entire cost of the project makes EUR 19.2 mln with the EU covering 67% of the necessary amountсуммы.
Estonian authorities are now to raise the rest of the amount.
The project envisages the construction of a new overpass above the railway to link the ports with an industrial area as well as the expansion of the railway station with the rolling stock development to speed up handling of wagons and to increase railway cargo flow.
Commercial Seaport of Tallinn is a large cargo and passenger seaport located at the southern shore of the Tallinn Bay. It was founded in 1219. Tallinn is the third largest port of the Baltic Sea after St. Petersburg and Primorsk. The port consists of 5 five constituent harbours: Muuga, Old City Harbour, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. In 2008, the port handled 29.077 million tonnes.
