CKYH cuts Asia-Europe capacity 20pc
The CKYH Alliance has announced its four member lines will cut capacity 20 per cent on joint Asia to Europe services from October.
Cosco, "K" Line, Yang Ming and Hanjin said they will provide six services instead of seven - four to north Europe and two to the Mediterranean.
As it stands, the CKYH carriers provide five services to northern Europe and two to the Med. The two Med loops will remain the same as the alliance's existing AME and AMX services, according to ComPair Data.
ComPair Data said Hanjin is also linked to UASC in two separate Asia-Med loops, with "K" Line buying slots on both and Yang Ming on one.
ComPair Data's Francis Phillips said the impact of the capacity withdrawal would be mitigated because some of the remaining services between Asia and north Europe will deploy bigger ships, reported American Shipper.
"With this rationalisation, the partner carriers will be able to avoid the overlapping of similar loops and reduce duplicate calling ports, thereby improving efficiency," the carriers said in a statement.
The new services have been renamed: NE1, NE2, NE3 and NE4 to north Europe, and MD1 and MD2 to Med ports.
For the NE1, which will deploy eight 8,500-TEU ships from Cosco and Hanjin, the rotation will be Ningbo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Guangzhou (Nansha), Rotterdam, Hamburg, Felixstowe, Antwerp, Singapore and back to Ningbo.
On the NE2, deploying eight 7,700-8,000-TEU vessels from "K" Line and Yang Ming, the rotation will be Xiamen, Kaohsiung, Shenzhen (Yantian), Singapore, Rotterdam, Felixstowe, Hamburg, Antwerp, Jeddah, Hong Kong, Shenzhen (Yantian) and back to Xiamen.
The NE3 rotation, served by six 8,000-TEU and three 7,700-TEU ships from all four CKYH carriers, will be Xingang, Dalian, Qingdao, Ningbo, Shenzhen (Yantian), Singapore, Port Said, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Felixstowe, Singapore and back to Xingang.
The NE4, served by three 8,000-TEU and five 7,700-TEU ships from "K" Line, Yang Ming and Hanjin, will be Gwangyang, Busan, Ningbo, Shanghai, Singapore, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Le Havre, Port Said, Singapore, Hong Kong and back to Gwangyang.
On the MD1 loop, with eight 5,000-TEU ships from all four carriers, will be Busan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Shenzhen (Yantian), Hong Kong, Singapore, Port Said, Ashdod, Malta, Naples, Genoa, Livorno, Marseilles Fos, Port Said, Singapore and back to Busan.
On the MD2 service, deploying eight 6,000-TEU vessels from all four member carriers, will be Shanghai, Ningbo, Xiamen, Kaohsiung, Shenzhen (Shekou), Singapore, Port Said, Piraeus, Genoa, La Spezia, Barcelona, Valencia, Singapore and back to Shanghai.
