Completion of dedicated coal terminal Phase 3 at Vostochny Port slated for H2 2016

Primorsky Krai based JSC Vostochny Port, the largest company in Russia handling export coal, is successfully implementing the construction project Phase 3 of dedicated coal terminal “Specialized Coal Terminal”, JSC Management Port Company (implements the P3 construction project) told IAA PortNews.

The company said construction work is carried out on time, on budget and is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2016.

Once the Phase 3 facility is commissioned, conveyors of new terminal will be connected to existing lines of the PPK-3 Coal Handling Terminal, forming a unified system of conveyors. The simultaneous coal storage capacity will be increased from the current 600 tonnes to 1.6 million tonnes.

The high-tech equipment of the new coal export terminal under construction will enable Vostochny Port to simultaneously load coal onto three Capesize dry bulk carriers (150,000dwt each) with a loading speed of up to 3 t/h.

Shipments of export coal from Vostochny Port will increase from the current 17 million tonnes to 30 million tonnes per year, including 20 million tonnes annually supplied by CarboOne, the largest exporter of Russia's high-quality thermal and metallurgical coal.

The Vostochny Port assets include two transshipment complexes. The first,  the only one in the Primorsky Territory, is Specialized Coal Terminal using the conveyor equipment system and a yard for unloading coal laden cars. Automation level here nears 98.9%. The facility capacity is 14.2 million tonnes per year.

The second facility with annual capacity of 3 million tonnes of coal is Universal Handling Terminal specializing in clamshell coal handling.

The Company handles largely coal mined in Kuzbass region. The commodity exports account for 98.5% of total cargo volumes of the terminal operator. Less than 1.5% is coal shipped by coasting dry bulk carriers, and just 0.01% accounts for other cargoes.

JSC Vostochny Port is the largest stevedoring company in Russia, which specializes in coal handling. Construction of Vostochny Port's Coal Handling Terminal Phase 3 began in 2012.

JSC Vostochny Port's sole executive body is Management Port Company LLC.
