Russian Maritime Register of Shipping takes part in Shiptec China 2014
Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) is taking part in the International Shipbuilding, Marine Equipment and Offshore Engineering Exhibition – Shiptec China 2014. One of the leading exhibitions of the Asian shipbuilding sector, the event will be held on 21-24 October 2014 in Dalian (People’s Republic of China), RS said in its press release.
RS experts will join representatives of Chinese companies in discussing issues concerning participation by the Russian classification society in projects involving shipbuilding at Chinese shipyards, strengthening cooperation in terms of survey over the manufacturing of materials and products intended for ships, approving production processes, and the certification of various types of shipping equipment and systems.
According to the RS Branch Office in China head, Peter Vanyukov, “the history of cooperation between the USSR Register, and now Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, and the PRC in the shipbuilding field stretches back more than 60 years. Growth in the competencies of Chinese maritime enterprises and the constant expansion of their technological potential is creating good cooperation prospects for Russian shipowners. RS is prepared to provide its comprehensive support to the furtherance of cooperation between Russian and Chinese companies in the areas of shipbuilding, ship repair, the production of shipping equipment and systems and the integration of cutting-edge maritime technologies.”
Today, specialists at the RS Branch Office in China offer the full spectrum of classification and statutory services under the construction and operation of ships, and perform the survey of Chinese industrial enterprises.
For instance, in early October, Keppel Nantong Shipyard saw the keel-laying of two multipurpose ships for the supply of mobile offshore drilling units and MTD-P227 fixed offshore platforms. The ships built under the RS survey are intended for operation at offshore oil and gas condensate fields in the northern part of the Caspian Sea. The presence of Arc4 ice strengthening allows them to operate efficiently during the winter navigation season.
With the participation of RS, Damen Shipyards Changde is pursuing the construction of a series of two ASD 3010 Ice ships. The propulsion power of tugs of this particular design amounts to 2460 kW. The keel of the lead tug was laid on 8 October 2014. The same shipyard is also currently in the midst of preparations for the construction of a tug according to the ASD 2609 design. At Yangzhou Haichuan Shipyard, an order has been placed for the construction of a series of five VHX503 chemical tankers under the RS survey for Russian clients. Preparations are currently underway for the construction of the lead chemical tanker with deadweight of 7,000 tons and AUT1 automation.
