  Комитет ИМО принял правила для повышения безопасности судоходства в полярных водах

  Международная морская организация ООН (ИМО, IMO) 21 ноября 2014 года приняла международные обязательные правила, способствующие повышению безопасности судоходства в полярных водах, говорится в сообщении Морской администрации Дании.
  
  После многолетних переговоров Комитет ИМО по безопасности на море (MSC) принял новый свод правил навигации в полярных водах, в том числе в водах вокруг Гренландии.
  
  Полярный кодекс охватывает все аспекты судоходства в полярных районах - от строительства судов, подготовке экипажей и навигации до совершенствования координации поисково-спасательных операций в этих районах.
  
  Полярный кодекс будет применяться к пассажирским судам и к грузовым судам валовой вместимостью свыше 500 тонн.
  
  До вступления в силу Полярного кодекса, его экологические положения в сфере навигации в полярных районах должны быть приняты Комитетом ИМО по защите окружающей среды (MEPC, КЗМС) весной 2015 года. Однако, положения уже были утверждены МЕРС в сентябре 2014 года. Таким образом, по планам весь кодекс будет принят и вступит в силу в конце 2016 - начале 2017 года.
  
  Проект Полярного кодекса охватывает весь спектр вопросов, включая проектирование, строительство, оборудованием, обучение, поисково-спасательные и другие операции, а также охрана окружающей среды, которые связаны с работой судов, плавающих в водах Арктики и Антарктики. Экологические положения в Кодексе содержат дополнительные требования к тем, которые уже содержатся в Конвенции МАРПОЛ и которые должны применяться к судам, плавающим в полярных водах. Так как Антарктида уже выделена в качестве особого района в соответствии с Приложениями I и V МАРПОЛ, содержащими строгие ограничения на выбросы, Полярный кодекс направлен на распространение многих из этих положений на область Арктики.
