Neva-Metal CJSC, (stevedoring company of Severstal) has put into operation two 50 t RTG cranes manufactured by Konecranes, the company’s press center says.

Unlike similar cranes maneuverability of which is limited by their runway, new rubber-tyred equipment features a wider area of application and higher maneuverability, the statement says. Besides, the cranes are fitted with their own diesel generators to power all lifting mechanisms. Autonomous supply system will ensure reduction of operating costs. The cranes’ energy-saving drive systems are customized to the specific process of cargo handling.

“New handling equipment features high efficiency. It will let speed up handling of containers … which, in its turn, will contribute to the efficiency of the container terminal and ensure its competitiveness in the market of stevedoring services,” said Andrei Zubarev, Director General of Neva-Metal CJSC.

CJSC Neva-Metal is part of a transport division of Severtal Russian Steel of Severstal Group. Neva-Metal annually handles over 3 mln t of cargo with container transshipment accounting for 30% of the total throughput. The company’s fleet of container handling equipment numbers over 10 units. In May 2013, stevedoring company of Severstal put into operation a unique STS-crane Kalmar which allowed to multiply container handling.

Severstal is one of the world’s leading vertically integrated steel and steel related mining companies with assets in Russia, the USA, Ukraine, Latvia, Poland, Italy and Liberia. Severstal is listed on MICEX/RTS, GDRs are traded on the LSE. In 2014, the Company’s revenue totaled $8.296 mln, EBITDA - $2.203 mln, steel production – 11.3 mln t.
