Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) says it will participate at Posidonia-2016 exhibition
Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) says it will participate at Posidonia-2016 exhibition – one of the largest international event of the maritime industry that biennially unite the leading industry representatives in Athens (Greece). This year the exhibition will be held from June 6 – 10, 2016.
Today, Greece is one of the world leaders in the shipping industry. Over 30 percent of the world tanker fleet are controlled by the Hellenic shipping companies. Over 60 RS-classed ships are flying the flag of the Hellenic Republic. Nearly 90 ships under the RS technical supervision are owned or managed by Greek companies. Above 520 Greek companies of the maritime industry are the RS customers.
Among the services, presented at the RS exhibition booth this year, the particular emphasis will be placed on the technical support of constructing the ships for hydrocarbon transportation in ice conditions. Despite the fact that Greece is a south country, the Arctic shipping, where RS is a recognized world’s expert, falls within the sphere of interest of the Greek shipowners. For instance, the stock of orders of the Greek company Dynacom Tankers Management, big European tanker fleet operator, includes five unique large-capacity Arctic gas carriers equipped with hi-tech membrane systems for transportation of liquefied natural gas up to 172 000 cub. m in capacity, as well as new ships for the carriage of gas condensate. The construction is carried out with the RS participation.
Ships for the transportation of gas condensate will have Arc7 ice class, ice-breaking hull shape, equipment designed for operation at low temperature (up to -50 degr C), as well as two thrusters and rather small draught (11,7 m) at 44000 t deadweight.
Konstantin Palnikov, RS Director General, said: ”The RS cooperation with the Greek shipowners has a long story and today, when the companies are intended to step up presence in the Arctic region, there are promising outlooks for the further development. Technical supervision of ice ships is one of the strength areas of the Russian classification society. The RS extensive experience and competence in ice ships technical supervision will help our colleagues and business partners in Greece to steadily develop a new sector of the maritime transportation market”.
