  Грузооборот порта Санкт-Петербург в январе-октябре 2006 года сократился на 7,1% по сравнению с аналогичным периодом прошлого года и составил 44 801 тыс. тонн. Об этом сообщает ФГУ «Администрация морского порта Санкт-Петербург». Перевалка нефтепродуктов за отчетный период составила 10 920,5 тыс. тонн (-19,6% по сравнению с январем-октябрем 2005 года), металлов - 5 330,3 тыс. тонн (-28,6%), лесных грузов - 2 286 тыс. тонн (-24,1%). Перевалка контейнеров возросла на 20,7% до 12 544,1 тыс. тонн. Рефрижераторных грузов в порту было обработано 2 824,9 тыс. тонн (+4%), химических грузов - 4 225 тыс. тонн (-32,3%), продовольственных грузов - 86,2 тыс. тонн (-59,1%). Перевалка генеральных грузов за девять месяцев увеличилась до 1 651,6 тыс. тонн (+13,5%). Перевалка угля и руды сократилась до 1 888,4 тыс. тонн (-32,3%), зерна – возросла до 361,5 тыс. тонн (+2,4%). Перевалка навалочных грузов возросла в 37 раз до 105,7 тыс. тонн. За отчетный период порт перегрузил 2 560,8 тыс. тонн металлолома (в январе-октябре 2005 года металлолом не перегружался).
