Latvian ports transshipped 40.8 million tons of cargo in January-August 2006
Latvian ports transshipped in January-August 2006 40.8 million tons of cargo (+1.1% against year-on-year result). According to RZhD-Partner, cargo turnover of three largest ports of Latvia - Ventspils, Riga, Liepaja - amounted to 40 million tons. Transshipment volume in January-August grew only in Riga port. The port handled 17.634 million tons of cargo (+7.5% against year-on-year result). Ventspils had in its turn the highest cargo turnover – 19.673 million tons, though it is 2.2% less than in January-August 2005. The lowest result belongs to Liepaja port – 2.713 million tons (-9%). Total cargo turnover of seven minor ports of Latvia has decreased this year. In total January-August transshipment of Salatsgriv, Mersrags, Roi, Pavilost, Engur, Skulte and Lielup transshipped 746.6 thou tons (-80 thou tons or -8.9% against year-on-year result). Cargo turnover of Salatsgriv port grew this year by 16.3% to 266.1 thou tons. Skulte port transshipped 247.5 thou tons of cargo (-24.8%), Mersrags – 201.2 thou tons, Roi – 28.1 thou tons, Pavilost – 3.4 thou tons, Engur - 300 tons, Lielup didn’t carry out cargo transshipment. The structure of cargo turnover included oil products – 14.146 million tons. Transshipment of coal amounted to 10.483 million tons, timber – 3.178 million tons, chemical cargo– 3.118 million tons.
