DP World Australia progresses to RFP for Port of Townsville Berth 4 upgrade
Australia’s largest stevedore, DP World Australia, is pleased to confirm it has been named one of three proponents to progress to the next stage of the Port of Townsville’s Request for Proposal (RFP) for its Berth 4 upgrade development, the company said in its press release.
As announced by Queensland Treasurer Curtis Pitt yesterday, the upgrade to Berth 4 (and associated land side infrastructure) will increase capacity at the Port of Townsville to assist in accommodating projected trade growth.
The upgrade project will also improve the efficiency of container handling operations and result in better cargo movement performance through the use of modern handling equipment and improved intermodal transfer (of cargo) to road and rail.
The Berth 4 upgrade development would present DP World Australia with an opportunity to expand the Australian network, position the company to support potential growth of customers and develop existing links to Asia.
The Port of Townsville is a vital and strategic trading port for North Queensland and is Northern Australia's largest general cargo and container port.
