  Батискафы "Мир" начали погружение на дно Северного Ледовитого океана

  На северном полюсе в рамках экспедиции "Арктика-2007" начался спуск глубоководных аппаратов "Мир" на дно Северного Ледовитого океана, сообщил РИА Новости представитель пресс-службы НИИ Арктики и Антарктики Росгидромета. "В 10.15 была передана информация о начале спуска аппарата "Мир-1", которым управляет Анатолий Сагалевич. Экипаж "Мир-2", под управлением Евгения Черняева, к моменту передачи информации из Арктики уже также занял места в глубоководном аппарате", - сказал представитель пресс-службы. По его словам, общее время операции составит восемь-девять часов. Погода в районе спуска благоприятная: ветер слабый, видимость хорошая, добавил представитель пресс-службы.

  Работа экспедиции, как надеются ученые, позволит уточнить границы российского шельфа в районе, простирающемся от Новосибирских островов до полюса. Кроме того, во время погружения ученые планируют взять пробы грунта и образцы животного мира со дна океана. Это позволит впервые детально изучить строение дна в приполюсном районе самого северного на земле океана. На дне океана будет оставлена титановая. В экспедицию из Петербурга научно-экспедиционное судно "Академик Федоров" вышло 10 июля, 24 июля в сопровождении ледокола "Россия" "Академик Федоров" отправился в Арктику. Района операции судно достигло в среду вечером. В воскресенье, 29 июля, была успешно проведена пробная операция по спуску глубоководных аппаратов на глубину около 1,5 тысячи метров.

  Работы проходят в рамках экспедиции "Арктика-2007" - одной из самых крупных, которые проводит Россия в период Международного Полярного года, начавшегося 1 марта 2007 года. В ней участвуют сотрудники более десяти научно-исследовательских институтов России и нескольких зарубежных научных центров.
