  Финляндия открывает навигацию по Сайменскому каналу

  Финляндия открывает сегодня навигацию по Сайменскому каналу, передает ПРАЙМ-ТАСС. Канал соединяет крупнейшую в Финляндии Сайменскую водную систему с Финским заливом, обеспечивая таким образом выход к внутренним портам в Европе и в России.

  Для многих маршрутов на российской территории Сайменский канал служит продолжением Волго-Балтийского водного пути. Из 43 км канала 23 км принадлежат Финляндии, а 20 км арендованы у России.

  Движение открывается по маршруту Йоутсено-Варкаус-Йоэнсуу, и для его обеспечения пока используется финский ледокол "Протектор". По финским прогнозам, новый навигационный сезон будет оживленным: уже в первую неделю навигации ожидается прибытие четырех грузовых судов. В среднем за сезон по Сайменскому каналу проходит более 2 тыс судов водоизмещением до 2,5 тыс тонн, действует как грузовое, так и пассажирское сообщение.

  Канал был построен в Российской империи и пущен в 1856 году. После Второй мировой войны он был значительно обновлен Финляндией и открыт для судоходства в 1968 году. Это - крупнейший шлюзовый канал Финляндии, причем пять из восьми его шлюзов находятся на территории РФ. Управление каналом осуществляет финская сторона; находящиеся на территории РФ часть канала и остров Малый Высоцкий арендуются Финляндией.
