Министерство коммуникаций и транспорта Литвы призвало более активно использовать порт Клайпеда для перевозки грузов в Афганистан
В министерстве обороны Литвы вице-министр коммуникаций и транспорта Арунас Штарас представил иностранным военным атташе возможности транзита через Литву грузов, необходимых для обеспечения международной операции в Афганистане. По словам вице-министра, сообщает «Литовский курьер», для перевозки грузов в Афганистан может более активно использоваться инфраструктура Клайпедского морского порта и железнодорожной компании Lietuvos gelezinkeliai.
Грузы для возглавляемой НАТО операции Международных сил содействия безопасности (ISAF) поставляются по двум сухопутным маршрутам - первый проходит через территорию Пакистана, а второй протянулся от портов на Балтике через Германию, Польшу, Литву, Латвию, Россию, Украину, Казахстан и Узбекистан.
В ноябре депутат литовского парламента Кястутис Масюлис призвал главу МИД Вигаудаса Ушацкаса приступить к консультациям с НАТО, чтобы часть военного транзита Альянса в Афганистан направлялась через территорию Литвы.
По словам госсекретаря министерства обороны Латвии Яниса Сартиса, выгода Латвии от транзита грузов уже превысила расходы, которые связаны с участием латвийских военных в возглавляемой НАТО миссии в Афганистане - 12 млн латов (58 млн литов).
Клайпедский порт – это самый северный незамерзающий порт на Восточном побережье Балтийского моря; наиболее крупный транспортный центр Литовской Республики, в котором соединяются морские и сухопутные пути. В порту действуют 17 стивидорных, судоремонтных и судостроительных компаний, предоставляющих весь спектр услуг, связанных с морским бизнесом и обслуживанием грузов.Годовая мощность порта достигает 40 миллионов тонн различных грузов.
