Big Port of St. Petersburg posts a 15.2% gain to 58m tons of cargo
Trade flows via the Big Port of St. Petersburg totaled 58 million tons of cargo in 2010, up 15.2% over 2009’s figures, the Association of Sea Commercial Ports (ASOP) press release said.
According to the ASOP, the North-West region’s stevedore companies handled 227,59 million tons of cargo, which is 1,9% more than a year earlier.
The Port of St. Petersburg is located on the islands of the delta of the Neva river, in the Neva Bay, the eastern tip of the Gulf of Finland. The Big Port of St. Petersburg territory includes the Neva River delta and the Neva Bay, Kronstadt and dam structures. The Port of St. Petersburg has a fleet of Icebreakers escorting merchant ships during winter navigation. According to the Port Authority, there are at least 30 operators of marine terminals currently operating at the port. In 2009, the port’s stevedores handled 50,4 million tons of cargo and 21,619 vessels (10,786 inbound ships and 10,833 outbound ones).
