Rizhao Port throughput may reach 200m tonnes in 2011

Rizhao Port is set to crack through the 200m tonne throughput mark this year. In the first three quarters the Shandong province port saw 153m tonnes pass through its docks, Seatrade Asia online reports. Rizhao has been one of China’s fastest growers thanks to large volumes of iron ore. Five years ago its annual throughput stood at under 60m tonnes.
“Recently Shandong Peninsular Blue Economic Zone has been put into the central government’s latest strategic development plan, as the progressing of more industrial projects in Rizhao including a steel production base, Rizhao-Yizheng oil pipeline, Rizhao-Dongming oil pipeline and Shanxi-Rizhao coal railway, Rizhao Port is facing big time opportunities,” said the port’s president, Du Chuanzhi.
