Port of Klaipeda's ten-month cargo volumes rise 7.3% to 30,11 million tonnes
Cargo traffic at Lithuania based Port of Klaipeda in January-October 2014 increased by 7.3% year-on-year totaled 30.1 million tonnes, the Klaipeda Port Authority said.
In October cargo throughput at the terminals jumped 24.3% to the port's record monthly high 3,652,800 tonnes.
In the reporting period the port's terminals saw a surge in the following segments: fertilizers volume soared 93.9% to 1.85.8 million tonnes, grain cargo - rose by 90.5% to 596,000 tonnes. Containerized cargo increased by 19.8% to 511,300 tonnes.
Container traffic totaled 42,320 TEUs. Handling of new cargo – liquified natural gas – 48,600 tonnes.
State-run Port of Klaipeda, the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea, is the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. There are 17 stevedore companies, shipyards and other operators at the port, providing a broad range of services. In 2013, total throughput of Port of Klaipeda and Butingės terminal was 33,42 million tonnes.
