Icebreakers festival kicks off in St. Petersburg,

One-of-a-kind show, the Festival of Icebreakers 2015 has opened in St. Petersburg, Russia, the show organizing committee said. The festival is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Soviet Union Victory in the Great Patriotic War, WW II and in honor of brave participants of the Arctic Convoys.

The two-day spectacular show will be held in the waters of the Big Neva with participation of Rosmorport's North-West basin branch owned icebreakers: "Moskva", "Ivan Krusenstern," and "Kapitan Sorokin." The show highlight is the icebreaker “Krasin”, a branch of the World Ocean Museum in St. Petersburg. The icebreakers will hold an open house and during three days will be accessible for tourists and residents of St. Petersburg. The festival includes tours of two St. Petersburg based shipyards: visits to the museum of Admiralty Shipyards and to Baltiysky Shipyard, building new icebreaker "Arktika".

The festival program also offers excursions on icebreakers, a large-scale historical re-enactment in the Neva River, showing dramatic and heroic pages in the history of Arctic exploration and the Arctic Convoys of the WW II, as well as the presentation of capabilities of modern Russian icebreaking fleet.

The parade of icebreakers will be held under the support of JSC "PORT FLEET" on the closing day of "Festival of Icebreakers" on May 3, 2015, the company said
Several icebreakers and icebreaking tugs will be performing kind of the sea waltz accompanied by a symphony orchestra and opera stars of St. Petersburg, creating a spectacular show on the water.

The 7th Maritime Youth Festival "MORFEST 2015" will be hosted in St. Petersburg as part of the Icebreakers Festival.

The festival was organized by the Marine Board of the Government of St. Petersburg, the Russian Union of culture professionals, Admiralty Shipyards, Adm. Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping, Society "Arctic Convoy" and other maritime organizations. Project Manager - President of the "Maritime Education" Anatoly Konstantinov.
