Sevastopol Shipyard, a branch of Zvezdochka Ship Repair Centre was awarded a contract to repair the high-speed catamaran Sochi-2. The fast passenger vessel has moored at the West Dock of the Crimea based Sevastopol shipyard for maintenance and repair, the shipbuilding company said.

The high-speed catamaran Sochi-2 was built in 1996 in Singapore by Kvaerner Fjellstrand as WaterJet 2. In May 2011 the ships were purchased by FSUE Rosmorport and delivered from Southampton port to Sochi seaport and since then was operated on cruise routes connecting the Black Sea ports.

The Sochi-2 is a double-decker ship with air conditioned passenger cabins and features panoramic windows, bars, radio and TV, storage room for passenger luggage, bathrooms. The powerful engines and water jet propulsion enables the boat to reach maximum speed of 34 knots.

Currently, there two vessels undergoing overhaul at the Sevastopol shipyard, the STS Khersones and the luxury motor yacht Golden Head.
At the end of 2015, Zvezdochka Ship Repair Centre's subsidiary in Sevastopol signed a 49-year lease agreement for production facilities of SUE S. Ordzhonikidze Sevastopol Marine Plant (SMZ). In addition, a “road map” was approved for integration of "SMZ" into USC. The integration plan has been successfully implemented.

Sevastopol Marine Plant named after Sergo Ordzhonikidze was founded in 1783. Until the 90s of the last century it was one of the largest enterprises in Sevastopol, Crimea generating thousand of jobs for the locals. On March 2015 the Government of Sevastopol and Russia's shipbuilding conglomerate United Shipbuilding Corporation signed a Memorandum on Cooperation with the purpose of reviving the company. Currently, the Zvezdochka's Sevastopol unit specializes in shipbuilding, ship repair, manufacturing onboard and industrial equipment, engineering and manufacturing of metal.

United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) was founded in 2007 as a 100-percent state-owned group of companies by the Presidential Decree № 394 (March 21, 2007). The Corp.  consolidates about 80% of the domestic shipbuilding industry and incorporates about 60 enterprises and organizations of the sector (major shipbuilding/ship repair yards, engineering and design offices). The Group builds vessels for Russian customers and exports its products to 20 countries.
