Parkroad (South Korea) enters PCTC business

South Korea’s Parkroad Corp is making its first foray into the car-carrying business, with a newly-converted PCTC in its fleet. On 5 February, the shipping company named and took delivery of the newly-named Nova Sea, formerly African Sea, converted by Xingang Shipyard. The vessel can carry 1,000 unit cars, and will be deployed at Korea, China and Middle East route, where shipments are regularly delayed because of heavy congestion. The vessel will mainly carry high and heavy machinery. The shipping company is also converting another bulk carrier into a PCTC. It will be named Nova Sun and make its maiden voyage in mid-March. A Parkroad spokesman told Fairplay that the company is diversifying its business scope into PCTCs as well as the existing dry bulk and general cargo transport business, adding that it will focus on high and heavy machinery rather than cars. Parkroad will further increase its PCTC fleet depending on the market situation, the spokesman said.
