As of today, Russian shipyards build 30% of civil vessels for Russian companies, IAA PortNews journalist cites Aleksandr Navolotsky, head of import substitution department of United Shipbuilding Corporation, as saying yesterday at the meeting of the Russian Engineering Union’s Committee on Shipbuilding Industry and Marine Equipment. The majority of the civil fleet for Russian customers was earlier built in foreign countries, mostly Norway, Denmark and South Korea.
Civil shipbuilding in Russia is still dependant on imports today.
“Up to 90% of components and shipboard equipment are of foreign origin today. Major challenges of the industry are in the segment of gas turbine propulsion units, electric equipment, titanium tubes, compressor equipment, varnishes, paints and solvents”, said Navolotsky.
He also reminded the meeting participants about USC programme on localization of shipbuilding and international cooperation in the industry.
