Throughput of port Ust-Luga (Leningrad Region) is forecasted to near 100 mln t in 2016
Throughput of Ust-Luga seaport (Leningrad Region) will be about 100 mln t in 2016, IAA PortNews correspondent cites Mikhail Talanenko, Director General of Commercial Sea Port of Ust-Luga OJSC, as forecasting at XII International Transport Forum “Yug-Trans-2016” held on March 17 in Gelendzhik.
He says that in 2015 Ust-Luga was the sixth in Europe having handled 87 mln t of cargo and the port going to build up cargo its turnover.
“In 2016 total cargo turnover of port Ust-Luga will near 100 mln t that is close to the throughput of Novorossiysk, Russia’s busiest port,” Talanenko said having emphasized that the port of Ust-Luga has a huge long-term growth potential, particularly in the field of mineral fertilizers and grain exports.
Ust-Luga port is situated practically at the border of the Russian Federation and the European Union. The deep water area of the port (17.5 m) together with the approach channel (3.7 km) make Ust-Luga port the only Russian port on the Baltic Sea capable of admitting dry-cargo vessels with the deadweight of up to 75,000 tonnes and liquid cargo carriers with the deadweight of up to 160,000 tonnes.
