For the first time BLRT Group loaded a bulk carrier with a deadweight of 36,000 tons
In the Vene-Balti port, owned by BLRT Group, the loading of large-capacity bulk carrier Sofia R with deadweight of 36,000 tons, was made for the first time. BLRT Group says previously the port was able to accept the vessels with a full load less than 20,000 tons. The possibility to service such vessels opened after reconstruction of the 6th and 7th berths of the port.
In the course of reconstruction works the water area was deepened from 8.5 to 10 meters and the navigation channel cleaned up. Now the ships with a bigger draft can moor in the port. Previously the depth of the port enabled to load 20 thousand tons on the bulk carrier, but now – twice as much.
“We not only deepened the bottom of the water area near the berths, but actually built these anew, and also increased the rear area for the service of ships. Before reconstruction the width of the berth was 20 meters, today it increased up to 50 meters. This provides to the companies operating on the berth with important advantage – the speed of cargo loading is increased. For example, at the present time up to 1,000 tons of scrap metal more is handled per day, enabling the concern and its subsidiaries to become more attractive to the customers ", - says Anatoly Onolov, the member of the board of the BLRT Group.
Reconstruction works of the berth lasted six months, the general contractor was Merko company.
