Decision made on transfer of FSUE Hydrographic Company to Rosatom Corporation

The authorities over FSUE Hydrographic Company will be passed from the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation to Rosatom Corporation, Mikhail Belkin, head of the Northern Sea Route Directorate’s Department for Development of NSR and Costal Territories, said at the 2nd Hydraulic Engineering Structures and Dredging Congress organized by IAA PortNews.

According to Mikhail Belkin, under the Rosatom authority the company will be responsible for navigational and hydrographic support (recommendations on the routes, ship positioning system), running and building infrastructure on the Northern Sea Route (sea canals, vessel traffic management systems, hydraulic engineering structures).

Nadezhda Zhikhareva, Deputy Head of Federal Marine and River Transport Agency, confirms that the Minister has made a decision on transfer of the authorities. 

The company’s activities cover the water area of the Northern Sea Route including the coast and islands of the Arctic seas as well as mouths of Siberian rivers (Yenisei, Khatanga, Lena, Kolyma), water areas of seaports and approaches to them.

Between 2011 and 2018, annual scope of the company’s hydrographic works on the Northern Sea Route was at least 31,000 virtual kilometers.

Between 2014-2017, total scope of the company’s hydrographic works in the Gulf of Ob and the approaches to it amounted to 103,356 virtual kilometers. That work resulted in arranging safe shipping in the area.
