Port of Odessa throughput climbs 1.3 percent to 16.9 million tons
Cargo traffic at Odessa Commercial Sea Port (OCSP) in January-August of this year totaled 16.9 million tons, up 1.3% over the same period last year, the state-owned company said adding the increase was driven by a 11.2 percent gain in dry cargo volume.
Eight-month volume of export containers rose 24%, import containers – by nearly 35.4%. Port of Odessa reports a 71.9 percent surge in handling of ore cargo. Shipments of raw sugar increased by 25%, of citrus and bananas - by 36.9%.
The company’s profit for the period is expected to reach UAH 341.2 million (vs planned UAH 285.2m).
In January-August, OCSP transferred to the country's budgets UAH 261.9 million, or 10 percent more than a year earlier.

State-owned Odessa Commercial Sea Port is a largest port in the Black Sea-Azov basin. The port encompasses 14 ha, 9-km waterfront and 54 berths. The port is able to handle annually 14 million tons of dry cargo and the same volume of petroleum products. Passenger terminal can accommodate 300-m vessels. In 2010, Odessa saw 72 calls of foreign-flagged cruise ships. Last year cargo throughput of OCSP was down 11.8% year-on-year, to 24.7 million tons.
