Kaliningrad port urgently needs dredging, regional authorities say
Total cargo traffic at Kaliningrad port is 39 million tons of cargoes a year. That accounts only for 35% of its projected capacity because of insufficient depths of its harbor, a regional official said Thursday.
Speaking at the 3rd Baltic Transport Forum in Kaliningrad, Minister of Infrastructure Development of the Kaliningrad region Alexander Rolbinov said that implementation of a dredging project and building of a deep-water port near the Balga peninsula would help boost cargo throughput of the regional transport hub.
The 3rd Baltic Transport Forum is co-sponsored by the Russian Federal Agency of Maritime and River Transport, Ministry of Transport and Communications of Lithuania and the Government of the Kaliningrad region.
