Bangladeshi government rejected proposals for state-owned Bangladesh Shipping Corporation to buy a BDT3.5bn ($47m) oil tanker under a public-private partnership (PPP) initiative, Seatrade Asia online reports. The government's cabinet committee on economic affairs on Sunday also rejected proposals to build a deepwater port at the southern island of Sonadia in Cox's Bazar.
The committee, led by finance minister AMA Muhith, pointed out that the government has not established a full PPP cell and no chief executive has been appointed to run its offices.
Muhith requested the shipping minister to review the proposals before the establishment of an independent PPP office.
