Port Vostochny’s cargo volume grows 16.9 percent in Jan-Aug
Exports / imports passing through Port Vostochny (excluding Kozmino terminal) in January-August 2011 totaled 16.03 million tons, a 16.9 percent increase over the same period of last year, the Port Authority said.
Exports of coal, coke (including charge and anthracite) rose by 19% to 13.11 million tons. Shipment of mineral fertilizer dropped 34% to 421,700 tons. Oil products exports gained 3.1% versus last year’s numbers, to 369,200 tons.
Container traffic jumped 44.4% to 222,264 TEUs.
In August, handling of exports/imports (without Kozmino) increased by 20.3% to 2,226,000 tons.
Port Vostochny (East Port) is the year-round navigable and the deepest port of the Russian Far East region. Vostochny Port is located on the coast Japan Sea, 20 km from the terminus of Trans-Siberian Railroad - the city of Nakhodka.
Vostochny port is able to accommodate 280-meter long, 40-meter wide vessels with draft up to 15.5 m. The port’s stevedore companies operate16 cargo berths, a few auxiliary berths at the terminals for handling coal, containers, fertilizer, methanol, timber, bulk and general cargo. In 2010, the port's cargo throughput (excluding Kozmino’s figures) increased by 7% year-over-year, to 20,34 million tons.
