China passes port construction fee collection target by 14% to $1.8 billion
A report by the Ministry of Finance in China showed that the country collected CNY11.4 billion (US$1.8 billion) in port construction fees last year, 14.4 per cent more than its target, Shippingazette reported.
The report said the beyond-target sum was because last year's throughput was "unexpectedly" high. Last year, China spent CNY1.2 billion on port construction projects, right on its target.
The fees were collected on cargo using all facilities, including terminals, buoy and anchorages to raise funds for port construction.
