USC, Defense Ministry ink contract for Project 11356 frigates
Representatives of United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) and Russian Ministry of Defense signed a delivery contract for the second trio of Project 11356 frigates on Tuesday under State Defense Order 2011, a USC spokesman said Wednesday.
"It is planned to deliver frigates to the Navy in 2015-2016," Rusnavy quoted Alexei Kravchenko as saying. The contract value was not unvailed.
The contract for the first three Project 13356 frigates was tied on Aug 29 between defense ministry and Yantar Shipyard (affiliate of USC), ITAR-TASS said.
A Project 11356 frigate is designed for ocean and sea operations; search and destroy of enemy submarines; conducting antisurface/antiaircraft/antisubmarine defenses of a task group; fire support of coastal and landing assault operations. Ships of Project 11356 have displacement of 3,910 tons, length of 124.8 meters, and beam of 15.2 meters.
