Gazprom, Eni, EdF, Wintershall to build South Stream
Gazprom of Russia, Eni of Italy, EdF of France and Wintershall of Germany have signed an agreement to build the South Stream gas pipeline, which is due to be laid from Russia to Europe across the Black Seabed, the Voice of Russia reported.
The agreement was signed in Sochi earlier today, with the Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin attending the ceremony.
The pipeline will cross the Black Sea from the Russian seaport of Jubga to the Bulgarian port Varna. Its two branches will then spread across the Balkan Peninsula to Italy and Austria.
The South Stream project seeks to boost the energy security of Europe.
