Rosmorport to deploy two Murmansk icebreakers in Gulf of Finland
FSUE Rosmorport plans to transfer two diesel-electric icebreakers operated by Rosmorport’s Murmansk branch to the Gulf of Finland for the 2011-2012 winter navigation period, Rosmorport reported quoting a Russian Transport Ministry official.
Deputy Transport Minister Victor Olersky told the International Logistics Forum in Rotterdam, the Ministry is considering the possibility to increase the icebreakers fleet in the Gulf to facilitate merchant shipping during the upcoming winter season.
Rosmorport’s General Director Andrei Lavrishchev, who also attended the event, said that Rosmorport is currently deploying at Big Port St. Petersburg two icebreakers, the Kapitan Nikolayev and the Kapitan Dranitsin. So, with these two the Rosmorport’s fleet of diesel-electric icebreakers will be increased to 15 vessels.
