Port of Oulu traffic down 2.1 percent in Jan-Jul, 2012
Cargo throughput at the Finland’s Port of Oulu for the past seven months of 2012 fell 2.1% compared to January-July 2011, to 2 million tons, the Port Authority said.
The volume of inbound goods rose by 0.5% to 844,699 tons, outbound cargo increased by 4.5% to 812,914 tons.
Exports of paper rose by 10% to 496,019 tons, shipments of lumber soared by 48% 86,251 tons.
Handling of containerized imports / exports jumped by 44.4% to 25,249 TEUs. Handling of specialized SECU containers (Stora-Enso Container Unit) declined by 24% to 7,099 units.
The Port of Oulu (Oulun Satama) is one of the leading ports of Finland for forest industry products and unitized cargo on the Gulf of Bothnia. The harbors in Oritkari, Nuottasaari, Vihreäsaari and Toppila have 500 - 600 ship calls each year. The port specializes in handling exported paper, timber, imported petroleum products and raw materials for the local timber industry. In 2011, cargo throughput at the Port of Oulu soared to its record high ever, 3,567,202 tons.
